Best Student Cities 2022 according to QS

QS has revealed Best Student Cities 2022 with London being on the top of the ranking.

The QS ranking provides an overview of the best destinations for international students based on a diverse range of indicators grouped into five key categories, such as affordability, desirability and the opinions of current students, university rankings.

More than 150 cities are being reviewed to make it to the ranking and to be considered, each city must have a population larger than 250,000, and be home to at least two universities.

The top 10 cities are:

  • London
  • Munich
  • Seoul & Tokyo (joint place)
  • Berlin
  • Melbourne
  • Zurich
  • Sydney
  • Boston & Montreal (joint place)

The leading city London deserves the top place thanks to the world-class universities including Imperial College London, and King’s College London. The city is popular amongst students because of its great choice of reputable academic institutions and its diversity of students and citizens from all over the world. The multicultural feel is a plus to learn about new cultures or to connect to your own culture when missing home.

The second place goes to Munich and this is due to the growing popularity of Germany as an international study destination. Germany is known for charging no tuition fees for undergraduate students at public universities regardless of nationality.  Munich made it high in the ranking thanks to an increase in the desirability, employer activity and affordability ranking indicators.

QS states that the probability of the city’s lower prices compared to other European cities, quality of life, nightlife and easiness of moving around has helped to up the position.

Seoul has moved up seven places to the third place of the QS ranking of the best student cities in the world, sharing the joint place with Tokyo in Japan. The capital of South Korea features 21 universities in the QS World University Ranking 2022.

Seoul is lively boosting with culture, history and creativity. The students who have given their opinions on experience of studying in Seoul to QS placed the city to 38th position in the students view indicator describing it culturally diverse, metropolitan and feeling safe.
