University of Nottingham programme in East Africa

The demand for quality international education has been growing across Africa and the University of Nottingham has decided to partner with Braeburn international schools to offer postgraduate training in international education for teachers.

Braeburn schools are a group of international schools spread over 9 campuses in Kenya and Tanzania providing world-class teaching of the British National Curriculum, IGCSE and GCE A-Levels to 3,600 pupils of diverse nationalities.

The Postgraduate Certificate in Education International course is suitable for practising teachers, as well as potential teachers from the East African region who hold first or second class honours degrees.

The course will be delivered online starting on 1st July lasting for a year. PGCEi course is a blended, distance learning course and will have two days of induction on July 30 and 31. Induction sessions will be taught by University of Nottingham tutors, supporting students through the duration of the course.

The students applying will be provided with experienced consultation for their professional development and will be able to reach out for support during the application process and once the course has begun through online communication.

The university stated that the programme is a response to the Covid-19 pandemic and the continuing high demand for that course and therefore the elements taught in-person before the pandemic have been transformed to blended delivery.

The induction will be delivered online through small group discussion, presentations, whole group and tutor interaction allowing the students to meet the other students and their tutors.

The web-based component will be taught via a dedicated virtual learning environment that includes online course materials, learning resources and tutorial support. Participants will need to make sure that they have the necessary computer technology to study online.

The certificate rewarded will not give Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or license to teach but students will be able to redeem 50% of the credits towards MA programmes. The further educational pathway details are explained by the university on their website or after further enquiry.
