Canada allows Fully Vaccinated Students

Canada allows Fully Vaccinated Students

Fully vaccinated students have been given green light to enter Canada to study with no need to quarantine if they comply with all the requirements.

The government announced that fully vaccinated foreign nationals, including language students, may enter Canada.

The fully vaccinated traveller is defined as a student/traveller who must:

  • Be eligible to enter Canada on the specific date they enter
  • Have no signs or symptoms of COVID-19
  • Have received the full series of an accepted COVID-19 vaccine or a combination of accepted vaccines (accepted vaccines: Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca/COVISHIELD, Janssen/Johnson & Johnson)
  • Have received their last vaccine dose at least 14 days before the day they enter Canada

This news means that students intending to study in Canada should be allowed in Canada without the need to quarantine for 2 weeks.

In addition to the proof of vaccination, students who are going to attend a course lasting less than 6 months are required to have a valid Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) or Temporary Resident Visa (TRV). All students must provide proof of negative Covid -19 test results.

Even fully vaccinated travellers must be prepared to quarantine for 14 days, in case they are symptomatic or do not meet some of the requirements. All have to have a suitable quarantine plan that must be entered into the official Government of Canada travel app, ArriveCAN.

Students and travellers are advised to download the ArriveCAN mobile app or sign in online at Canada.ca/ArriveCAN where they submit their travel and contact details, the plan in case they need to quarantine, a COVID-19 symptom self-assessment and the proof of vaccination. This must be done within 72 hours of the arrival date. Once completed the traveller gets a receipt.

This is great news for students who are fully vaccinated. The students who have not been vaccinated yet are welcomed in Canada if they have a valid study permit for a programme at an approved designated learning institution and they have to go to quarantine for 14 days upon the arrival. Similarly, they must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test result, taken within 72 hours prior to their arrival. Additionally, they are required to take a PCR test upon arrival and on Day 8 after arriving in Canada.

These latest changes are great news for Educational providers and students wishing to study in Canada.

The government website provides all the necessary information of requirements prior and after arrival to Canada and they can be found here: https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid/travel-restrictions/covid-vaccinated-travellers-entering-canada.
