International House schools take actions to safeguard our planet

Global language educator International House World Organisation has decided to take actions to safeguard our planet and minimise the company’s impact on the environment. The IH Environmental Sustainability Action is established to help its network become more environmentally sustainable via 12 steps with positive actions taken towards increasing awareness and actions to reduce the negative impact.
The positive contributions include introducing sustainability strategies, educating students about environmental sustainability. The actions to reduce the impact on the environment are energy usage and the environmental footprint of new school buildings and facilities, and increasing recycling.
Schools that demonstrate positive actions in at least 8 of the 12 themes, will be awarded a badge that can be included on any of the school communication and will reflect the school’s commitment to sustainability. IH is confident that every International House school, and their staff and students will try their best to take positive steps to incorporate environmental sustainability in their everyday behaviour.
IH intention is that ‘Protecting our Planet’ will become synonymous with the group across all their schools around the world. While many member schools have already made a positive steps, the official scheeme will encourage them to to go even further. IH will also provide academic resources, examples and suggestions and share innovative ideas within its school network.
As Greta Thunberg says, “No one is too small to make a difference”. The IH network has over 5,000 teachers and over 200,000 students around the world and if each school or student take only a small step or change one thing, all combined together may have a big difference.
