MEI announce new scheme promoting Ireland

The English language school association in Ireland – Marketing English in Ireland (MEI) held recently an online MEI Virtual Workshop that included a presentation from Colm O’Byrne the Chair of MEI and David O’Grady the CEO of MEI on the latest situation of Ireland and work of MEI.

Ireland is currently under the strictest level of restrictions until 5th April meaning that non-essential retail, bars, cafes, construction, gyms and other sectors will remain closed and the 5km travel limit remains in place. The government have made an exception for reopening schools starting from 8th march in various stages and hopefully with all schools reopening after Easter in mid-April.

The reopening in April is a piece of hopeful news for MEI and its members as well as all English Language Schools in Ireland. During the lockdown the association has been active, working with the government, members and partners to make sure that schools will be ready to reopen when the time is right with health and safety guidelines in place to welcome the students again.

The presentation from MEI revealed that a new Regional Ambassador scheme designed to showcase the choice of schools and experiences across the country.

The scheme will be split into three regions: The Wild Atlantic Way with 20 schools; Dublin with 43 MEI member schools; and The Ancient East, which comprises nine schools.

The Regional Ambassadors were carefully chosen and represent a school from the given region and possess all the abilities and experience to promote English language education quality, the facilities and the attraction of the regions.

The ambassadors are Adi Vickers from Asana School of English for The Wild Atlantic Way; Isha McDonald of Mackdonald Language Academy representing The Ancient East; and Oliver Lyons of Swan Training Institute and Deirdre Rochford from Irish College of English will be representing Dublin.

Additionally, the group mentioned that in January the 65 member schools of MEI merged with more than 20 English language schools from Independent Language Schools Group ILSG.

Both associations had been already collaborating, particularly through the Covid-19 pandemic resulting in the merge that will be beneficial to all its members and also to strengthen the position of Ireland as a quality destination for students.
