New marketing of research initiative in Germany

The initiative ‘Research in Germany — Land of Ideas’ has been updated and is now available online. This included a major revamp of the website that promotes Germany as a research destination in order to attract more international researchers to take advantage of the various opportunities available in the German research sector. The German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst – DAAD) is jointly responsible for implementing this initiative set up and funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, along with the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), the Fraunhofer Society, and the DLR Project Management Agency (BMBF).

Germany is an attractive location for talented international researchers and we should always publicise this on a global basis. The Research in Germany initiative provides an excellent platform to do so. I’m therefore delighted that the main website is now resplendent in a new design. It will in future convince even more researchers from around the world to come to Germany to conduct their research, said DAAD President Professor Dr Joybrato Mukherjee.

The makeover emphasises the link between innovation, international networking, and performance in the German research scene. It also emphasizes ideals like freedom, variety, and social and ecological responsibility, even more than previously.

The Research in Germany initiative is centred on its website, www.research-in-germany.org. The new website provides fast access to funding alternatives for overseas researchers as well as information on major institutions in Germany based on their research specialization in a user-friendly format. The website’s audience ranges from doctorate students to postdoctoral researchers to seasoned scholars. These various target groups can use the newly launched website to get personalised information on the wide range of funding and career opportunities available in Germany. In addition, they can get information on the underlying conditions in research and teaching and support options available at German higher education and research institutions.

The programme aims to raise awareness among international researchers, scientists, and multipliers of Germany’s research capabilities as well as the various access possibilities available to them. In order to showcase Germany as an attractive research and science location, research in Germany engages in activities such as trade conferences and job fairs, delegation tours, forums and seminars, concept competitions, educational publications, social media channels, and its primary website. Students and researchers from all over the world visited the Research in Germany website about four million times in 2021.
