Scheme to boost ELT student numbers in Malta

Scheme to boost ELT student numbers in Malta

As Malta announced the reopening of tourism on 1st June, English language schools are ready to welcome students for face-to-face learning.  Summer schools can reopen from June 7th.

To support the recruitment of students travelling to Malta to study the English language, the minister for tourism Clayton Bartolo has announced that the students will be given a voucher of EUR10 per night to be spent in the country.

Bartolo said that “Tourism is the lungs of the Maltese economy..” and this scheme is one of the ways to revive the economy.

Students will be eligible for the scheme if they spend at least 15 nights in Malta to learn English at any language schools. The maximum amount will be capped at EUR300 per student.

The scheme will start from 1st June and the students receive the vouchers upon arrival. These vouchers can be used in shops and businesses that are taking part in the government scheme.

This Scheme is administered by the Malta Tourism Authority. Any licenced English Language Schools teaching the English Language can apply for the vouchers for the students providing information of their booking, duration and other details requested.

Currently, most of the European countries are on an Amber list which means that arriving tourists do not need to quarantine if they present a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of departure.

In a recent post from the PIE news, Caroline Tissot who is a designated CEO of Feltom, explained that schools have been struggling during the pandemic and that the scheme seems to be creating interest from prospective students.

The vouchers scheme should attract more students and bring back the funds to the economy as it will be spent locally.
