The best schools for getting a place at Oxbridge

Education plays an important role in every child’s life and for parents, the decision on choosing the right school, whether it is a nursery, primary or secondary, for their children is one that will outline a path for the future.

The parents will consider numerous options depending on the area where they live, financial status, the reputation of the school and official rating according to inspections.

All the information can be very overwhelming and some parents will take into consideration choosing the school that might prepare their children best for their further studies at the universities and increase their chances to get to universities like Oxford or Cambridge.

Recently The Telegraph collected details by requesting information from Oxford and Cambridge colleges about the schools that made the highest number of offers during the last three years. They have categorised the results into 4 lists of best schools for getting a place at Oxbridge depending on the type of the school:

– The best private schools

– The best grammar schools

– The best state schools

– The best international schools

According to Telegraph’s data, the top three private schools with the highest number of offers from Oxbridge were Westminster School, followed by Eton College and St Paul’s School.

On the top of the list of grammar schools with the highest number of offers from Oxbridge were the Colchester Royal Grammar School, Henrietta Barnett School in north London and Pate’s Grammar School in Gloucestershire.

The state school with the highest number of offers from Oxbridge were the Hills Road Sixth Form College in Cambridge, followed by Peter Symonds College in Hampshire and Brighton Hove and Sussex Sixth Form College.

There is also an interactive tool on The Telegraph’s website enabling one to search through the list according to the location using a postcode.

This information might help the parents to navigate through details of schools that usually present themselves with strong academic results but do not provide information on the chances of their pupils to get a place at Oxford or Cambridge.
