The newly launched data barometer by ALTO

The recovery from pandemic for many Language travel organizations means opening the centres safely for in-person classes and welcome their students. The Association of Language Travel Organisation (ALTO) has decided to collect the data to see how the recovery progress in the international education sector.

The newly launched data barometer will track trends on weekly basis in the global language school industry. ALTO has announced in a press release that a business with more data has a better chance to survive in comparison to a business without it may struggle and therefore the ALTO Board has decided to create the data collaboration platform altotrends.com.

ALTO is welcoming language schools worldwide to join the altotrends.com project, where they can provide reports of their weekly arrivals anonymously. Initially, the schools are asked to submit weekly arrivals from 2019 as a one-off information provision, thereafter they can provide the arrivals data on weekly basis.

The individual data is going to be kept confidential. ALTO will only release the data used to create a global trend graphic and will make it available to all participants for free. The first report is hoped to be published at the end of March.

At first, the data project is focused on adult language courses, but may later be extended to cover junior programmes and other areas including work & travel and higher education.

The association invite all ALTO member schools and ALTO associations’ members worldwide to support the altotrends.com project by joining in. It will help the organizations to use the data to make further better-informed decisions and it will help the whole sector as sharing the information is important in current challenging times.

ALTO added that the national association members will be able to use the data to lobby for government relief programmes for the industry in their own countries.

Additionally, the organization has been surveying agents, schools and partners on their experience and impact of the pandemic, as well as their future views and plans.
