Erasmus+ 2021-27
Over the last three decades, participation in Erasmus+ has created many opportunities for mobility and cooperation in innovation, research, culture, education and youth. Over 10 million people benefited from the programme in some way and almost half of them between 2014 and 2020.
The new Erasmus+ Program, set to run between 2021-27, will be more digital, inclusive and innovative, as well as sustainable.
The Erasmus+ program will aim to reach 10 million people over the next seven years, with the program’s budget of €26 billion set for the period.
The Erasmus+ program is also a key to achieving the European Education Area by 2025, according to the EC.
EC hopes that by increasing the numbers of participants before 2027, they will provide opportunities to a more diverse group of learners, including those with disadvantages such people with disabilities, migrants and EU citizens living in remote areas.
The main focus is on the inclusion of participants with different backgrounds to attract greater numbers and sparkle the enthusiasm for Europe.
The programme will be accessible to students in higher, general, vocational, adult and non-formal education as well as to small scale organisations.
To overcome problems of in-person mobility for some participants, virtual learning and online tools in areas such as language support, preparatory visits, training and virtual cooperation will be available.
Erasmus+ will also support flagship EC initiatives, such as European Universities, Erasmus Teacher Academies, Centres of Vocational Excellence and DiscoverEU.
Erasmus is a very authentic programme to Europe representing the essence of the European way of life of these generations to create unity in diversity, solidarity, mobility and support; crafting a vision for Europe for a world with peace and freedom.
The formalities of Erasmus+ with regulations for 2021-2027 will be adopted at a later stage by EU member states’ ambassadors.
Unfortunately, the UK has ditched participation in Erasmus+ and is banking on its pro-sovereignty vision for a ‘Global Britain’ replacement to Erasmus+ so that students will have the chance not just to go to European universities, but to go to the best universities in the world.
